Losing oneself
The 8 mile road – a road that kinda separates the white part of Detroit from the black part. -And the name of Eminem’s current movie that is going to hit theatres soon. And, well, once again in the history of movies, the director uses music for certain scenes, and once again, one can buy this cd as an original soundtrack. Whether you should buy it or not, well, read the article:

Same thing as on “The Eminem Show”: Eminem decided to take a lot of the production in his own hands. All of the tracks he’s featured on are produced by himself. Whether this was a good or a bad decision, it’s a matter of taste, but let me tell you my opinion: “Lose Yourself”, the first track on the record, features Eminem on his own – and his production. The track bases on a rough riff and a straight drumset, and, of course, the killer on point flow Eminem has. It’s a burner track, no doubt. “Love Me”, the second track with 50 Cent, Obie Trice and Eminem himself, however, starts hopeful, but never goes for more than in the beginning – a little disappointing. It’s just a little too lame, which is a pity ‘cause Eminem’s lyrics once again kill everything. “8 Mile”, the title track, is once again Em on his own, and it consists of – who would have thought? – great lyrics but a production you at least have to get used to.

And that’s how the whole album goes: Great starts, great talent, but eventually, it’s all roller coaster. Ups and downs, all the way, in each and every round. Jay-Z delivers perfect flows on a beat that might not be liked by everyone, Xzibit is rough and down to earth as usual, Nas tries to persuade with good lyrics on a playstation beat (which doesn’t work out at all), Rakim seems to have lost a lot of what was a killer flow once, Gang Starr, however, do a great track with their old formula: DJ Premier moves asses, and Guru rocks the mic. I’m glad Premo is back… Eminem finishes the record off with a – once again – burner track which shows us how it would be or would have been possible… The other Shady people? Obie Trice, one of the newer Shady Records signings, manages to give us hopeful pieces of his lyrical knowledge, 50 Cent – well, I don’t feel him yet.

On the whole, it’s a four out of six shots thing: Some good joints, Eminem persuading lyrically, Jay-Z also, and Gang Starr with a good track on the one, sometimes weird productions and some not really that great tracks on the other hand.

**** out of SIX SHOTS.
